I work and have class, so I will frequently leave my dog Chief in his kennel while I’m out of the house. (Chief is a 1 year old wolf hybrid.) He doesn’t seem like he has ever fully gotten used to the kennel, he still whines and cries whenever I put him in there. It’s too long for him, but if I go smaller it will be too short for him. It’s not everytime, but in the past 2 weeks he has pooped in his kennel 4 times. I always take him out before I put him in there, and he has ample time to poop. I take him to all the places he usually poops. But when I get back there it is. He also pees in there somewhat regularly.
A few weeks ago I put him in his kennel to go run some errands. I leave my house then realize I forgot something. I go back inside to Chief’s whining, and I notice that he has already peed in his kennel. Now I took him out before I put him up and he peed several times, so this baffled me. I don’t understand why he’s doing this. Is it anxiety? I understand I need to get a divider for his kennel now, but that doesn’t explain peeing that quickly. Any help would be greatly appreciated, this will be his 4th bath in 2 weeks and the 4th time I’ve had to detail his poop filled kennel (he also sits in it and spreads it all over the kennel.) It’s driving my roommate and I crazy. Thank you to anyone who can help me out with this!
I currently live in an apartment complex, at least for another month and a half before I move into a house that has a backyard for him. So the dog run idea is great, but I can’t really do that in this situation. Also I exercise him plenty. I take him on runs, and he loves to play fetch. So I don’t think it’s really that. I’ve put several beds in there with him, all kinds of chew toys, tennis balls, bones of every sort, but its the same result. Every bed I have put in there he has destroyed within 2 weeks.

Also besides this he’s a sweetheart. He’s done great with all of his other training, I’ve taught him all kinds of tricks. He’s very smart though. I had to get a latch because he figured out how to unlock the kennel from the inside. He also quickly figured out how to open doors too. I take him to our local dog park whenever I get a chance to, and he just loves it out there. Excess energy may factor into this somewhere, but it’s not the primary cause I don’t think. He’s done this after
