I have 2 chocolate labs. I bought a large crate today for them and put a divider in it. Will that work for now or do I need to get two individual ones? They both lay down in it and play in it. But, I don’t want to have a problem later with being codependent or whatever dogs have….

Yeah that should work for NOW but definately get them separate ones later on. Crate training is wonderful. It broke my heart at first but now I’m okay with it and it has worked wonders. Now my dog loves it in there

I would get them each a crate so they don’t get used to being together. Keep using the divider if the crate is too big, that should help keep them from pottying in one end and sleeping in the other.

A crate should only be large enough for the dog to be able to fully turn around in and stand up straight. They do not need to be sharing a crate. They should each have their own. You should use the "divider wall" to make the crate smaller as they grow, so they won’t lay on one end and poop in the other.

I have a 4 month old female yellow labrador. She does really well in her crate, and doesn"t mind being in it. However, i think having 2 dogs in there might come to be a problem. I would recommend having a separate one for each one, because the dogs may get too cramped.

I don’t understand why people get dogs if they "have" to put them in crates – imagine yourself being put in a little container all day, with fairly little room to move. on top, you are close to your "friend" but still cannot play with him…..how would you feel?????

I think having the separator in there is fine for now, because as puppies that should give them lots of room. But you will eventually want to get another one so you might as well get it now if you can afford it. They will get use to having each other close by and if you leave it too long they may not sleep as well at night being separated.

Try to do it soon but its fine so a short period of time.
