I am getting 2 basset hound puppies, and am wondering what size cage to get for them. I would like to be able to use the cage for the life of the dogs. I am thinking of getting a 48" x 28” x 35" and getting a divider for it when they are small. I would like to crate train them to housebreak them. Will this be too big for them when they are adults? Would a 42" x 26" x 32" be big enough for 2 adult bassets?

The general advice on a crate is that the dog should be able to turn around comfortably and be able to lie down.

The (adult) dog should be able to stand, lay and turn round comfortably in the cage. If it can’t then the cage is too small. Ask the breeder (if they have cages/crates) what size they think you to get.
